From 0% to over 89%

On the beach where we live near Salinas Grandas 100% of the eggs laid by sea turtles are collected, moments after they are laid and taken to market.  During the first season of our residence, upon discovering the practice, we scrambled to learn all there was to learn and to start buying eggs.  To date we have released over 120,000 baby sea turtles into the ocean.

Our mission is simple, maybe we can't change the world but for as far the eye can see in our neighborhood sea turtles will lay eggs and babies will return to the sea.

No one here has ever seen a baby [sea turtle]. We just see the eggs.
— Jorge, local fisherman
